India’s Company Registration Numbers Hit Record Levels in 2026

India is seeing its highest level of company registrations in over a decade. Latest Ministry of Corporate Affairs data puts the country at 1.31[a] lakh new business registrations between January and April 2026, covering Pvt Ltd Companies, LLPs, OPCs, Public Limited Companies, and Foreign Companies.

Private Limited Companies made up 85,560 of the overall count. LLPs made up another 39,774, sitting at close to 30% of everything new that got formed in those four months. Section 8 companies also contributed to the total, but in smaller numbers. They are mainly used by non-profits that want to operate as a formal company under the Companies Act, 2013. Therefore, Section 8 company registration online remains a common option for setting up such ventures with a charitable cause.

Registrations Continue to Rise[b]

Look at the monthly numbers in 2026 and the pattern it shows: 23,280 new companies in January and 24,140 in February. December 2025 alone hit 26,631, the highest single month anyone has recorded. Since 2013, the average has been 10,699 registrations per month. The current level is above that average, and there has not been a peak, but a steady rise.

Some of what's showing up in the data:

  • Private Limited Companies remain popular among founders seeking growth or outside investment.
  • LLPs are also gaining ground and now account for nearly 30% of new filings.
  • Lower compliance and simpler management make them attractive.

The services sector continues to lead new registrations. Monthly company registration counts have also stayed above 20,000 since early 2026. This steady growth matters more than any single monthly spike.

Section 8 Registrations are a Smaller, Steadier [c]Story

Section 8 companies, the structure non-profits use under the Companies Act, don't move with the same energy. The last real numbers came from an MCA reply in the Lok Sabha, dated November 25, 2024. 9,282 registrations in 2021-22. 8,271 in 2022-23. 11,358 in 2023-24. Then 6,090 through the end of October 2024 for FY 2024-25. Total registrations ranged from 1,67,086 to 1,85,318 a year. Section 8 companies consistently made up around 5% to 6% of the total.

Why This Keeps Climbing

The Central Registration Centre has been running since January 2016, and it genuinely sped things up nationwide. There's no government fee at all for companies with authorised capital up to ₹15 lakh. SPICe+ folds name reservation, DIN, PAN, TAN, and the Certificate of Incorporation into one filing instead of five separate ones. Founders now choose LLPs or Private Limited Companies based on their actual business needs.

What Comes Next

Registrations have stayed above 20,000 per month in early 2026. The year is also on track to exceed previous levels. This shows that growth is continuing.

Section 8 companies are likely to remain around the 5% to 6% range unless major changes occur. New government data for FY 2025-26 would show whether non-profit registrations are growing at the same pace.
